|
Founded in 1976, University of Phoenix is the largest accredited university in the U.S. The healthcare programs offered include bachelor's degrees in health administration and nursing, master's degrees in healthcare management, nursing, and healthcare education, and a doctoral degree in healthcare administration. Many healthcare professionals find a way to continue working in their field, while they earn a degree in as few as 2 years.

I attend University of Phoenix and am enrolled in the Heathcare program. Although it requires a high level of commitment, I will be finished with my college education online in one year. This totaled out to be a total of 3 years in class. After I graduate I will have my BS in Healthcare. The best part of the program for me would have to be the personal attention the instructors give to you. They have smaller class sizes so it feels like you are getting the one on one that you need. Also, if you ever have questions about your course work or homework many of the instructors provide you with a phone number and days and times you can contact them by phone. I guess the only part of this program I did not like, and I’m sure other didn’t too, was all of the written assignments that you had to do. I would recommend the University of Phoenix for anyone who is interested in higher education, especially a health care program. The University has put me in the right direction to get started in the career I want.

Bachelor of Science in Health Administration/Long Term Care

I was looking for an online degree program in Healthcare Administration focusing on Long Term Care and found the University of Phoenix offered programs that fit my needs and budget. Their program offered classes that gave me the basics and necessary tools for understanding the administration and operation of this specific type of facility. The classes were relevant to the needs of an administrator and administration staff. The courses in developing skills and organizational behavior were very valuable and the class in heath care and disease trends was very informative. One thing I wish I could have had more classes on was legal and ethical issues in healthcare administration. Compliance issues are so important today more time learning about navigating these issues would have been valuable to me. I also would have liked to have more of a chance to explore ethical issues because there is no harm in exploring these issues, particularly in a long-term care facility setting.

This program was incredible! It was exactly what I needed. Being a single mom I really wanted to go back to school but didn't because of the time away from work and my son. When I started researching online degrees, I came across U of Phoenix online and it sounded good, When I contacted them, they got right back to me and answered all of my questions. They were really friendly. doing my degree there was easily one of the best decisions I've made! Once I started classes, I was really nervous. I hadn't been in school in a while and the whole over the internet thing was scary. The school is very supportive and really helps with what ever you need. The teachers I had were all great. It wasn't like I remembered nursing school. It seemed like they were all trying to fail everyone. Uof P wanted to help you pass. It was easy to become close with the students in your class. You needed to work together and be supportive of each other. It worked well.

The University of Phoenix's healthcare program has it's pros and cons. I thoroughly enjoyed the classes and the convenience, however, I was not completely aware of the time commitment the classes would take. Each instructor receives a grading rubric prior to each week of class assignments. Some instructors share their rubric while others do not. It would have been nice to receive the rubric from all instructors as the rubric contained specific areas of focus for each assignment.
There were times the online system was not accessible. This made for a difficult time making sure assignments were submitted on time. The healthcare classes for my specific degree were very helpful and somewhat difficult even with my medical background. The online classes are no different than taking a class in a traditional classroom setting. A strong determination and personal commitment is required as well as setting aside a specific amount of study time.

Classes are really tailored for the working student, so it was easy for me to continue working and still get the classes I needed. The location, on Albuquerque's north side was convenient for me as well, I did not spend a lot of time or money commuting. I was impressed from the start with the knowledge and expertise of the instructors, many of them had taught for years and they really knew the practical side of things as well, sharing stories about situations in the "real world" of health care. Their knowledge and willingness to share made a big difference for me, it really enriched the learning experience. When I graduated, I felt like I was fully prepared for the situations that arise at work and guess what?, I was right. I was able to comfortably integrate into a hospital work situation right away. I also appreciated the assistance I got from the financial aid department. They helped me explore options and put the paperwork together to get the best financial aid package that was available for me.

I was doing travel nursing at the time so it was great it was portable I could sign on from anywhere. Also it's only 6 weeks for each class so just about the time your getting bored with it, it's time to change.
The professors were wonderful. Online was great, interactions even if they weren't always immediate interactions, as with face to face. I enjoyed it, it fit nicely into my lifestyle and met my needs.

I was pleased with my online experience for the most part. The teachers and students were very receptive and we had weekly online chatroom meetings. The work was very challenging, but I was able to complete it on my own at home and received useful feedback from the instructor when it was complete.
