Overview
The Swedish Institute is located in New York City, and the school is committed to a natural approach to healthcare. The school was founded in 1916 by Captain Theodore Melander, a native of Sweden. Massage therapy classes have been provided here since the school's beginning, and the school also now offers a three-year Masters level Acupuncture Program. In addition to its undergraduate and graduate programs, the Swedish Institute offers Professional Continuing Education courses that help graduates maintain and continually improve upon their skills.
Student Appeal
Students are able to enroll in the school three times per year. The curriculum is exciting and innovative, and it is taught by professionals who work in the fields they teach. Students are able to directly apply what they have learned in the courses upon graduation at their places of employment, and employment assistance is available. - AcupunctureAcupuncture
The Acupuncture Program was begun in 1996, and its courses cover the history, applied philosophy and spirit of Classical Chinese Acupuncture. This style is rooted in the philosophy of Taoism, and is governed by principles outlined in ancient texts. This program was created under the guidance of Jeffrey C. Yuen, Dean for Academic Affairs. His experience as both a scholar and 88th generation Taoist priest has helped shape the breadth and depth of the curriculum. - Massage TherapyMassage Therapy
The Massage Therapy program is registered with and regulated by the New York State Education Department and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). Graduates who successfully complete this course are qualified to meet all other state requirements to sit for the New York State licensing examination in massage therapy. Graduates of our Massage Therapy Program are eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam (NCE) given by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
