I attended Southern Technical College’s Medical Assistant program to create a career for myself that I could be proud of. I gained the skills to start a career in a doctor’s office more quickly than I had thought I could. Through the required laboratory work I gained technical skills needed to understand what the job required from me and how effectively I could complete the tasks. I found the classroom experience engaging and comprehensive, and it brought everything together for me. My only wish is that I would have had more chances to take clinical experience opportunities. I really enjoyed that the most and only wish I could have worked it in to my schedule better. The fast pace of the curriculum was a challenge as well. I felt the nine months went by so fast and I wanted to make sure I was fully prepared to enter the field, although I know I made the most of my time.

Southern Technical College made getting an education easy. The Orlando location was convenient so I could work and get my education at the same time. I was impressed from the beginning with the attitude of the counseling staff, they really were concerned about me and interested in my long term goals. They supported me every step of the way as I went through the school, got my education and achieved my degree. I felt like I always had someone to talk with if I needed them, someone was willing to listen. I found that many of my classmates were in similar situations as I, also working, and I found myself making friends easily. The work is challenging and we studied together often. I felt like part of a group of people committed to improving our lives, and the lives of our loved ones. The educational process is a mix of class room, laboratory and clinical work. It's a comfortable mix that really prepares you for a job. I had plenty of hands on experience so I was comfortable when I started working.
