Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is professional credential recognition managed by the Project Management Institute (PMI). PMP certification requires a high school degree, 7500 hours in a lead role, experience performing management tasks over a period of 60 months, and completion of 35 hours of project management learning within the past 8 years. Additionally, students are required to pass an official PMP examination, often taken through a technical school with a specialized PMP training program. As well, due to the certificate's 3 year expiration period, certificate holders are charged with continuing their education and work experience to maintain the certification. PMP Certification is generally pursued by experienced managers desiring increased job mobility, and by students holding the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification or a Bachelor's degree, who wish to advance in the IT field. The salaries of Project Managers varies according to the industry they work in, but on average, they earn between $42,000 and $76,000.
