Employment of pharmacists is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2014, because of the increasing demand for pharmaceuticals, particularly from the growing elderly population. The increasing numbers of middle-aged and elderly people—who use more prescription drugs than younger people—will continue to spur demand for pharmacists in all employment settings.
Enrollments in pharmacy programs are rising as more students are attracted by high salaries and good job prospects. The average yearly salary of a pharmacist is $84,900. The middle 50 percent of pharmacist earn between %75,720 and $94,850. Despite this increase in enrollments, job openings will continue to be more numerous than those seeking employment.
