In order to become a holistic health practitioner, it is important to be trained to learn how to individualize a holistic health program appropriate for the client's unique needs and how to integrate different natural healing (naturopathic) therapies into appropriate health programs.
There are various holistic health degrees and certificates available. Programs range from a few months of training to three years. Some provide enough training to become a licensed massage therapist, with additional training in other areas (herbology, nutrition among others).
Other schools provide smaller programs with fewer hours that may not be enough as a stand-alone career, but would provide a good addition to an already existing career as an acupuncturist, chiropractor, and others. Depending on the school and program, some practitioners qualify to become massage therapists or licensed counselors upon completion of a master's degree program in holistic health counseling.
