You get what you pay for. WGU offers cheap tuition and the price is that the curriculum is often disorganized. Courses are oftem mislabeled. The Fundamentals of Advanced Nurse Practice has nothing to do this Advanced Nursing Practice. The competencies must be taked in the order that WGU wants to delivery them. The price of cheap tuition is one size fits all.The mentors often have great credentials but work from home and often present as overwhelmed and distracted. Though eager to hand out negative feedback (that often lacks objectivity) the faculty struggles to handle any negative feedback from students regarding the educational experience. The faculty appear somewhat overly sensitive and inflexible. ON the upside it is cheap. If you can avoid the tedious hours trapped in circular chat rooms, you can learn alot about a dark underside of the nursing profession.

I found this program lacking on several levels: conflicting information offered by several mentors, unclear rubrics, grading by unknown parties who you cannot contact for redirection, graders whose comments are misspelled and demonstrate poor grammar, lack of any instructor responsible for the courses. Basically, I found the system to lack accountability or transparency, values that this country is currently calling for. Too bad WGU did not listen.

Western Governors University healthcare programs are amazing. They offer many online programs to help people advance their education in a convenient way. My classes were all online, so I could complete work while still maintaining my busy schedule. The only thing I did not like is that contacting teachers could sometimes be problematic. Sometimes it might take them a while to get back to you through email, but that would be expected with any online program. I had no problem obtaining a job after graduation; I was definitely prepared for my career!

Nursing Program - BS WGU

One of the best things about using Western Governors University Healthcare Degree to complete my BS in Nursing is that I could do online. I could continue to work and have my family relatively undisturbed from my new schedule and I could still complete a lifelong goal of mine. Also, I work better alone and on my own schedule, so online classes are perfect for me! However, it is difficult to always stay completely motivated when you aren't in contact with others in your class or your teacher face to face. But, as long as you stay focused on your goals, you will be successful. I felt completely prepared to continue my career in nursing at a higher level after I finished my degree at from this program.

Online is fantastic. Never would have been able to do a grad degree if I had physically had to be at scheduled classes; still work full time, so varying shifts, and with family obligations as well this was the only way I could do it. Made a lot of effort to have good communication with students and I never felt isolated, which was a surprise. Offered me a lot of advice on how to use my degree. Not many cons except missing cameraderie of physically present classmates. Good preparation for the future- would like to become a nurse educator, working right now on interview prep, and this qualification is necessary for it... we will see!
