If you are considering Vancouver Career College as your future educational institution, please do your research before signing/agreeing anything. When you request "Free Information" from the school, you are set up with an appointment to meet a commission-based Admissions Advisor who is not interested in your education but rather interested in meeting their quota. Be cautious and take everything they say with a grain of salt as they are SELLING you the school.

The entrance exam is a joke and from the looks of it was just for formality's sake. I failed the math portion of the exam and the Admissions Advisor practically helped me cheat in order to pass. It did not matter that I failed because as long as I signed the contract and agreed to pay the tuition, I was enrolled.

Many of the students enrolled into the PN program have hopes to bridge into an RN program after they finish and an instructor lead us to believe that LPN transition programs would be available after we graduate. The truth is, the majority of LPN transition programs are currently under review and these programs are not accepting applications until further notice. And once they do open up, the wait list is at least 3 years. At that rate and the money you have paid for the PN program, you should have just applied for an RN program instead. So then why not work until the programs open up again? Because employers do not hire Vancouver Career College grads. My aunt is an RN and she flat out told me that her hospital did not hire Vancouver Career College grads and they prefer to hire from Sprott Shaw College (if anything, apply to Sprott Shaw. Their courses are transferable within public schools in BC).

The instructors for the PN program were not supportive. One student in the program was simply asking for help after class and the instructor flat out refused to help her. It seems that the instructors of this college come in to teach their subject and then leave immediately once class is done. They do not have office hours to answer/clarify any questions students may have. Expect to rely on yourself and only yourself to understand the material because the instructors do not go out of their way to help you after they have clocked out for the day. I'm sorry but a 5 hour lecture a week is simply insufficient to be able to teach a course. As a result of the lack of support from the instructors, more than half of the PN class failed one of the most crucial courses in the program. How does the college expect their students to succeed if they don't even offer extra help? Not every student is going to understand the lesson after one lecture. I understand that it's an intensive program but that should be more of a reason to offer multiple outlets of support for students. From the "for-profit" perspective of this private college, the students are paying customers therefore they have the right to receive an education that is worthy of the price they're paying. It seems as if everyone but the students are benefiting from this college.

I have since withdrawn from this nightmare college but I'm paying a price for this decision. Read the contract carefully before you sign otherwise you will be in debt for your mistakes. If the course of the program is already mediocre 4 weeks into the program, I don't even want to think about what's coming for my ex-classmates. I can't bare to think what happens to a student when they fail a course (and unfortunately, I see this fate for many of my ex-classmates). The cost to retake one course is a substantial amount of money.

This college costs too much money to get a diploma that may or may not land you employment. It is high-risk with little reward. Quoting from a previous review "If you want to know the definition of over promised and under delivered, go to Vancouver Career College." Save your time and money, save your sanity from dealing with the staff.

Look at it this way, Would you rather be out 25K and a year of your life with a diploma from a mediocre private college to avoid a wait list at a public college OR Keep your 25K, save a year of your life to do something meaningful, and be on a wait list for a public college with multiple support systems that will cost a fraction of private.

FYI. Langara's 4 year RN program costs approximately 30K. Vancouver COMMUNITY College RN program costs approximately 20K. Their LPN program costs approximately 5K.

Buyer beware. Stay away from the college if you can help it.

Confused PN

I am incredibly confused at these reviews, I currently attend the Burnaby campus of Vancouver Career College. I just have to give some clarity to these ridiculous critiques...

First of all, to those critics saying they were ripped off by paying to much, You signed up for a PRIVATE college??? Thats the point! That's why they offer you the education immediately or else there would also be a 2 year waiting list there. Yes I admit it's a steep price to pay however suit yourself, wait two years bitching and complaining about the public school systems slow entry or pay more and get an education immediately.

Secondly, I don't know what anyone is saying when they state the teachers have no prior training!? Every instructor I have had so far has at a minimum 1 year teaching experience on top of being a licensed practical nurse. (And that just the requirements too teach there) Most of the instructors have their BSN or were physicians?!?! All are nurses or higher and are great at teaching the health care curriculum. I'm absolutely lost when I read people critiques saying otherwise. I have learned more than I ever imagined attending this school and to those of you who think otherwise; I bet that your the students who had to drop out because you failed too many times now the only way to seek revenge on the instructors who deemed you unsuccessful is to smear their credentials into the mud. GOOD thing you aren't becoming a PN, there is no room in this career for negative spiteful people like that.

Finally, The textbooks/ equipment comment? I and all of the rest of the school received brand new latest edition texts that are used around canada in both the LPN and RN programs. Brand new equipment from stethoscopes to practice injection kits. I am receiving a great wealth of knowledge from this course and feel as though each and every instructor at this campus cares personally about my success and are ensuring the education I receive is the best out there. So Just to set the record straight for all of you new curious students looking for a school, GO TO BURNABY campus. Have an open mind and study your butt off!! It will pay off and be worth the extra $.

It is easy to be negative and to be a critic, Much more difficult to be positive and learn. If you want to be a PN, challenge yourself to learn with a positive outlook.

BEWARE!!!

School not recommended by AMANDA PAGE on June 14, 2011

you can't drop out of school without being fined or charged by the student loan. the best thing is to transfer to another eminata branch school such as CDI College because they have the best support system compared to the VANCOUVER CAREER COLLEGE BURNABY CAMPUS ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE TAKING LPN PROGRAM.

Vancouver Career College Burnaby Campus is the worst school ever!

THESE ARE ALL BASE FROM MY PERSONAL HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE!

I was going to the school for there Medical Office Assistant class. I have a number of issues with this school. 1st, They rushed me to sign up by saying classes where filling up fast. That was on a Thursday and I started class the fallowing Monday. 2nd, They did not wait for my school loan to go through before just throwing me into class 3rd, THEY put all of the wrong info down for the paper work for my loan so I did not get founding. 4th, They offered me extra help what is why I joined that school. You think I got any of that help? Non at all! 5th, I was kicked out of class about 3 months in for not getting they money in time.

I have phoned the school more then once to see if we could fix this and not only was I treated like trash but they also wanted me to pay more money to just be put back into the same class what I was then 3 weeks behind in at this point. I am not going to end here though, Im going to the news about this school. I am a 20 year old young girl who was just trying to better my life but now I am stuck paying those money grabbing two faced, sneaks $6,000! And for what? Nothing! There over charging me by $3,000! I work two jobs as is only making $10 a hour. Tell everyone you know not to go to this school, It will happen to them. If you look around there are so many people saying the same thing as me. So please help get the word out about Vancouver Career College. You don't want to be stuck paying for something your not getting anything out of.
