REMINGTON COLLEGE OF NURSING IS A SCAM

School not recommended by L.L on February 08, 2010

SIX STUDENTS WILL FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST REMINGTON COLLEGE OF NURSING FOR BREACH OF CONTRACT. THESE STUDENTS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PASS THE HESI TEST. ACCORDING TO THEIR ACADEMIC CATALOG HESI WAS GOING TO BE USED AS A PRACTICE TEST. TWO WEEKS BEFORE GRADUATION THE STUDENTS WERE TOLD THEY WERE NOT GOING TO GRADUATE IF THEY DID NOT SCORE A 900 OR HIGHER ON THE HESI. I BELIEVE THIS SCHOOL IS A SCAM. FURTHERMORE THESE STUDENTS WERE TOLD BY THE PRESIDENT EVEN IF THEY WERE TO SUE THE SCHOOL THEY WILL NEVER GET THEIR DIPLOMA AS THE COURT CAN NOT FORCE THEM TO GRANT THE STUDENTS ANY DIPLOMA. SO BASICALLY THESE STUDENTS PAID $30,000 FOR NOTHING.

Everything about this school is true. We were told after finishing the program we would get our sitting pass for NCLEX. In our last semester we were told we needed to take the HESI and get a 900+ and make 200 NCLEX questions weekly. We spoke to the President of the school about the course. Her reply was do not worry. You will all graduate but will not get your pass until remediation. A group of 6 passed all the classes and are not graduating because they did not get a 900+ on the HESI. The group took the test 3 times before and still did not pass with 900+. Then the President said sorry but you can not graduate.Everytime we took the HESI the topics were different. We were told to study the subjects we were low on. We did what we were told. Now they are not graduating. Do not do the same run with your money to another place. The school is not even accredited.

college of nursing - mixed bag!

COLLEGE OF NURSINGS be careful when you read reviews of this school. the remington franchise owns many different schools, but there is only ONE college of nursing. RCON is in Lake Mary, FL and I am a current student in the one year BSN program. this IS a real college, and it is tough. I graduated magna cum laude from a state school for my first BA, and in high school i was an IB student with a 3.9 gpa. being at RCON is ten times harder than any academic program i've ever attempted. the classes are rigorous. an immense amount of outside studying is required to get by, and given the program is accelerated and condensed, finding "extra" free time to study is tough. I got 3 B's and a C my first term. It was the first time in my LIFE that i earned anything less than a B at the collegiate level. The clinicals are intense and you're thrown right in. Our reputation at our area hospitals is outstanding, as we are usually far better prepared and educated than other local students (our school requires us to pick up assignments the night before and research our patients' conditions and meds. other schools do not do this, thus we always come in far more prepared at morning report). the reason i would not recommend this program is because of the stress. the full time schedule is hell. there are no traditional breaks like other school, and due to the quarters being off-kilter with the calender year, we take our finals at times when other students are at easy points of their semesters. Its hard to explain to people why you can't make plans because its finals week in the middle of october or in the third week of january. the program is VERY expensive. the faculty and administration seem to be a bit unorganized (its a brand new school) and if your background is in established higher education, you will be frustrated with the lack of infrastructure. if you are smart, dedicated, and willing to sacrifice a personal life for a year- this program is feasible. but if you like to see your family and friends, and if you hate studying around the clock, consider a longer program that gives you time to breathe. oh, the hesi exit exam thing is true. we had NO IDEA when we signed our contracts and entered the program that we'd be required to earn a 900+ on the hesi exit exam in order to graduate.

Rip Off- Big Scam!

I went to the Nursing school in Florida and it was just bad. There is no other way to describe it. They lie and omit information to get your $30,000. They did not tell you that you can work your ass off...and you will, night and day nonstop!...and not be allowed to sit for your license. They just want your money and then you will find yourself $30,000 in debt with no nursing license. I SUGGEST STRONGLY THAT IT IS A SCAM AND THAT ANY ONE GOING TO THIS NURSING SCHOOL DO YOUR RESEARCH AND ALSO TALK TO OTHERS WHO HAVE GONE. DONT BE FOOLED!!!

Don't Do It!

I implore you not to waste your time or money on this "college". ALL they are concerned with is getting money from the federal government and getting you into debt. They use a company called Sallie Mae Financial--which could quite possibly be THE WORST company to deal with when it comes to student loans. They will not lower your payments or give you a deferment. It is their way or the highway. The whole school climate is VERY unprofessional. They pretend to care and promise you a job, but they are only after enrollment figures and $$$$$. I was "promised" a job when I completed my program. Yeah, they found me a job--a customer service job from the newspaper that I could have easily found myself. DO NOT attend there, DO NOT enroll there, and I beg you to share all of this information with everyone you know. This school is a mistake and other schools like this WILL NOT help you improve your life. I think you'd be better off attending a nearby university. You've been warned. God bless you.

Do not go to Remington! I just graduated from there in the MIC(coding program). In 9 months we learned nothing! It has nothing to do with slacking. Most of the staff/teachers dont know how to teach. We had an MA teaching our program since the other MIC Instructor left without notice. They only care about getting students in and taking their money. One instructor we had didn't like to be "bothered" by our questions because she was too busy doing her own online classes. This school is an absolute joke!

I attend remington, medical assistant program, and its great. So much hands-on experience. Im making straight As because I study. The people that write these bad reviews most likely be the ones that dont study and want a hand out. No one owes you anything. Do your work and thats that. I love it and will recommend this school to anyone. If you want all the experience and practice come here, we practice everyday on everything. This is a great school for medical assistant, I can't speak on the rest.

told me that there was a good chance that the company that i did my internship at would more then likely hire me after the internship. i learned when i started at my chosen place that you had to have two years experience to be hired. when i told them that i did not want to do my internship there they said that i had to or i would be dropped. they did not even work with me to find me another place so i dropped out and i still owe on my loan. then they tried get more money from the goverment by telling me that i had to fill out another application, when the ones before already covered the cost of my degree. it was another 3000 dollars. they thought they wwould get me but they did not.

Dont make the same mistake I did. I was a single mother with 2 kids, thought I was doing the right thing. I make maybe 20K yr for a AA, still paying on loan from yrs ago. I cant continue my education at South, Springhill, Bishop State, NO ONE will take my credits from this school. So I have to start all over while still paying on my loan. DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE!!!

don't even consider to go to that school. this is a private school they can do whatever they want. i am currently in the nursing program. first they lie about the hesi exit exam. they do not tell you that you have to have a 900 on the hesi to be able to graduate. second the vice president does not want certain people to graduate because they think certain people will not pass the nclex. there is only one nice and fair faculty at the school. every one else wants you to flunk, after they take your $30000. that is all the vice president cares about, your money.

The REAL experience

As i read the other reviews i laugh that slackers don't gain anything from slacking off at school.

Remington college is a fully accredited institution meaning it is a authentic and competitive college.

I've been enrolled into the Computer Networking administration program and i've already been able to use the skills i learned in the real world.

The great benefits about the program are the certifications which can carry as much weight as a bachelors degree when combined with your Associates degree. just look at career builder and see how many employers REQUIRE these certifications. not to mention remington college offers these for FREE. (for the first time if you fail its then out of pocket for a retest)

MY teachers are very helpful and are very knowledgeable in their career fields. as they are currently working and carry several certifications themselves, they teach you what you need to know and what you dont, they answer questions clearly and spend time with you on things you find difficult.

Remington college offers many benefits over state universities and these people calling it a rip off dont know what they are talking about. in CNA people are getting hired into the computer networking and Desktop support field by their 4th term. thats only a fraction of the way towards completing the program.

The classrooms tend to be cold...thats my only complaint. well worth every penny for those of you who are concerned about your education and arent slackers and quitters.

For Profit's SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay away from these For Profit colleges PERIOD! Their "diplomas" and "certifications" are worthless in the REAL world. Most places will throw a resume away that has one of them listed as your source of education. I attended Remington for 2 months before I wised up. I received an A in a class that I did no work for and had no tests in. It was their Pharmacy Technician course yet after our instructor left due to medical reasons they replaced her with a person who was a certified MA who knew nothing about being a Pharmacy Technician. I owe them $3000 for what? We learned nothing in the Pharmacy Law class and barely nothing in Pharmacy Practice. The math we went over I already knew because I went out and bought a book beforehand. We didn't learn anything about flow rates, alligation or how to dose for children. This was a scam-BEWARE! Check out your local community college before signing up for one of these for profits.

Helpful Insight

School recommended by Anonymous on April 21, 2009

Remington College has been around for awhile but it was mainly a technical education type school and not a true academic institution such as a state university. In January they recently started an accelerated bachelors of science in nursing program. To enter the program you must have a bachelors degree in any area and then complete the prerequisits for the nursing program before you can apply. The program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and is in the process of getting accreditation from CCNE, one of the two accreditation bodies for nursing programs. The faculty there are very experienced nursing educators. This is an accelerated program so it is very compressed. So far I think that it is very good. It is amazing how much I have learned.

Remington College

So, I've seen that there are a few bad reviews in regards to this school. I don't know much about may of their programs, but I'm currently in their inaugural accelerated BSN program. I actually just finished my last final this morning and my last clinical for the quarter is tomorrow. Like I said I don't know anything about the school as a whole, but I will say that when you watch the open house video it does state that your credits may not be transferable to another school (So, that shouldn't be a surprise).

For the RN program, we are required to already have a Bachelor's degree in another field and we are eligible to take the NCLEX after successfully graduating. Accreditation for the program should be happening in a year or so after my class finishes, however either way, having a different bachelor's degree and being a licensed RN will give us the availability to go to Master's program if we wish.

The program is a lot of work and a lot of information considering it is technically a two year program rolled into one year, but I think it is definitely worth it. Our professors are very knowledgeable and always willing to help us. It is expensive, but worth it if you are serious about putting the time and effort to succeed.

Remington College is a Rip Off. Do not go there!

School not recommended by Disapointed on March 12, 2009

I can relate to every single one of the claims on this site about Remington College. There is so much about the college that is a joke; I don't even know where to begin. I am embarrassed to say that is where I earned my "degree". Actually you cannot even call it that, mainly it is just a $30,000 piece of paper. I do acknowledge that just because you go to college does not mean you are guaranteed a job, but having a college degree is supposed to be something to help get your foot in the door. I would be better off not having that college degree listed on my resume as most companies laugh at it and say it is not considered a "real degree".

This experience has ruined my ambition to continue my college career at this point. I am 30K in debt with a fake associate's degree and make only 20K a year. I would have to get a second associates degree at another school and then move onto a bachelor's degree.

All I can do is hope that other people who read this are not as easily swayed about this school as I was. I wanted to believe it was a good school and that I would be the exception which would actually make it out of there and make something of myself. I was wrong and half way through the course (after seeing so many graduates working at McDonalds) I knew that I would end up where they were, and you cannot drop out because you still have to pay if you leave anyways.

When the recruiter's show you the 92% success in job placement, what they fail to show you is that those people have jobs alright, if you went to school there to become an IT Tech and you graduate and get a job at Taco Bell, You are then considered "placed in a job." I know first hand that just because it says people have gone to jobs after being there, it just means they have a job, not that they actually have a job that is part of their chosen field. It could be any job at all and it will count towards the success rate of the school.

I know that there are a lot of complaints on here for this college, but I can tell you that the people who have complained on this website are just a drop in the bucket compared to the people I know personally who have gone there and lived to regret it. This school not only ruins you financially, but it ruins a part of your goals and desires to move ahead, ambitions, self-esteem ( just knowing that you tried so hard for nothing and when you realize that you have been scammed, it is a horrible feeling) trust, (you will have a hard time trusting companies like this in the future).

It is true that they just want your money. I know that all schools want money to an extent, I mean they certainly would not do it for free but this school is ridiculous about it. There are many people that pass and put in no effort. In fact there are many classes that I personally thought I would flunk and I passed. It truly is impossible to flunk any class at that school. I really do not think anyone has ever flunked a class at that school. Everyone passes. It is impossible to flunk; you could not flunk even if you tried. They want you to stay because they want your money and the farther YOU get in the program, the more money THEY get.

Please take my advice and do not go there. Do not let them scam any more people!!

Don't waste your time going to this school...You won't be able to find a job when you get out; you don't learn anything that other Medical assistant schools teach, and it's $13,500, which u can go to a school to be an RN for...I regret going to Remington, and now I am $10,000 in debt because of school loans. Its not worth it. Be an LPN or RN.

Please don't waste your time or money. I attended this so called college a few years back and it was horrible. The staff was unprofessional and didn't seem to know much of anything. Anyone can attend because their biggest concern is recruiting people. Once you get signed up they help you destroy your credit by applying for all these loans. The school is way over priced and you are left with just a bill after its all said and done. I regret the day i stepped foot in that place.
