I recently graduated from NMTI in Falls Church, Virginia. From the time of my first visit to the school, throughout my taining and now my graduation, I was/have been treated in a very professional and caring manner. I was given an excellent education which allowed me to pass my National Certification Boards on the first attempt, and then apply for and receive my license. I am now working as a massage therapist in an upscale Spa and doing very well. My interview for this postion was arranged by the school. I was given help any time I needed it, but held accountable for my attendance and grades. Classes were small. My fellow classmates were great and the staff and instructors really cared about me and my success. Some parts of the anatomy and physiology classes were hard. I did have to study. My cousin started the program in July and is also doing great. I am very happy with my choice, and would recommnend my school to anyone serious about entering this field.

My experience at NMTI was very enlightening and beneficial to find my career path. However, for as much fun and education I received, the program is not for everyone. I have a college degree in science and agriculture and years of work experience in analysis. The material covered in the NMTI program is heavy on anatomy and physiology. My previous experience was useful in comprehending the course objectives. Some of my fellow students did not have the advantage of having a scientific background and struggled to meet the school's standards. It is NOT necessary to know A&P before starting the program, but it does help. There were plenty of students who never took a science class before and passed just fine. It's about how much work are you willing to do. I do say that for the students who did struggle, the instructor was always available for help, tutoring and coaching. Just remember, this is not about rubbing people; this is hard work but it can also be very rewarding. I wanted to get away from a job that did not leave me feeling satisfied. I wanted to instill a sense of well-being in others and myself. NMTI helped me to achieve that goal and to keep raising the bar for myself.
NMTI kicked me out for being sick.

I went there and all throughout the registration process I made them very aware of the fact I was and had been ill for a long while, they said they'd work with me. After I had to postponed after the first 3 days I started again three weeks later. I started getting sick again and tried to explain that I couldn't make the two hour commute each way seeing as how it'd gotten so bad I couldn't walk in the mornings let alone leave the house. When my fiancee called to explain this the school director refused to let him speak without interrupting him mid-sentence with "Well, you'll owe 20,000 dollars, I don't care you're just gonna have to get stuck with that big bill" They accused me of lying, personally insulted both me and my fiancee who had also began going. Turns out that he was literally only saying that to provoke us seeing as how at the time he knew that our financial aid or loans hadn't gone through yet. So in short when they say they'll do what they can to help you graduate they are lying. We also had problems with our financial aid adviser who kept losing our tax information. Also, we were told that they were the only accredited school for massage in the state, that was also a lie, we were immediately able to find another school that was 7,000 dollars cheaper. By the way, they charge a ridiculous amount for attending a school that shares a building with a dunkin donuts and is in pretty bad shape. It makes you wonder where the money goes seeing as how it seems they hire mostly students to teach.

If you are interested in a career in the massage field, NMTI focuses only on massage. The classes are taught by professionals in their field that not only teach you the techniques but the business behind them. My only complaint was the commute but you can't hold the school responsible for that. Career placement is second to none. I quickly had more offers than I new what to do with and have been working ever since.
