Online education has become an increasingly popular form of learning, allowing working adults and non-traditional students access to the same quality of resources that traditional campus students enjoy. Many adults who would never have the opportunity to receive a college education can expand into new careers or enhance occupational skills from the convenience of home. With the appropriate technology and teaching models, students can develop a solid academic foundation and gain experience through internship and externship programs from institutions and healthcare organizations sanctioned by their school and consistent with their curriculum.

Satellite campuses and week-long residency requirements are used to supplement regular lab classes. While these options may not be the preferred method, they provide a convenient compromise for those who do not live near the school of their choice, have busy working schedules, or cannot attend traditional classes for one reason or another.

While many schools are legitimately dedicated to providing quality distance education and healthcare training solutions, students should be wary of diploma mills and less reputable distance programs. It is generally a good idea to research a school for accreditation prior to enrollment. Accreditations from either a nationally-recognized accrediting agency or a regionally-recognized agency will ensure that the healthcare degree will be accepted in the professional field.
