Clinical Psychology

Clinical Psychology is one of the most popular careers within psychology. This type of psychologist studies the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of people with psychological problems. Usually, clinical psychologists treat more serious disorders such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The most common degrees in this field are Masters and PhDs. There are two main education options for students who want to get their doctorate in Clinical Psychology – the PhD, which involves more quantitative research, and the Psy.D, which has less quantitative research and more clinical work. Clinical psychologists work in a variety of settings not limited to schools, hospitals and mental health facilities. Clinical Psychologists are usually paid very well – starting salaries for those with doctoral degrees are around $65,000, and can go well above $100,000.
