Overview
The Berdan Institute is a career-oriented school which prepares health professionals for careers in the rapidly growing healthcare industry. The school has locations in both Wayne and Union, New Jersey. Programs are designed to get students out of the classroom and into rewarding jobs as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Student Appeal
Most of Berdan's programs may be completed in under one year. The instructors tailor and update each course to meet the current needs of the industry. In addition to classroom, lab, and computer lab time, students are able to get real-world experience through the requisite externship programs.
Financial
Eligible students may apply for Pell Grants and other federal aid including student loans. The Berdan Institute is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. The certificate program in dental assisting is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The Medical Assistant certificate program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

BiotechnologyBiotechnology In Berdan's Biotechnology program, students learn how to combines the use of biology and chemistry to develop products that improve the overall quality of human life. Students will be prepared for entry-level positions in biotech and pharmaceutical labs, manufacturing labs and crime labs. The Biotechnology courses are divided into eight, 100-hour modules of classroom and laboratory time, and the program also includes a 180-hour externship experience.
Dental AssistingDental Assisting The Dental Assisting program provides students with the necessary skills and experience for a career involving dental office procedures and laboratory techniques. Upon completion of the program, students are able to pursue entry-level positions as a dental assistant in dental offices and clinics performing various lab techniques and office procedures. The Dental Assistant Program require 750 hours of classroom, clinical, and lab instruction, and a 160 hour externship program. While the daytime program is 34 weeks, the nighttime program is 46 weeks.
Massage TherapyMassage Therapy To complete the Massage Therapy program, students must attend 750 hours of clinical, lab and classroom instruction. Students are fully trained with the necessary entry-level technical, business and professional skills for used in the fields of massage therapy and body work. Upon graduation, students may look for entry-level positions in day spas, health clinics, hotels, and many other locations.
Medical AssistingMedical Assisting Graduates of the Medical Assisting program will have the skills and knowledge to compete for entry-level positions as medical assistants performing medical procedures, lab techniques and front office duties. Students are required to take 5 modules of 150-hour classroom and lab instruction. They must also complete a 160-hour externship program. Upon completing the program, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant exam sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
Medical Billing/CodingMedical Billing/Coding This program prepares students for fast-paced and growing careers in the health and health insurance industries. Medical billers/coders are responsible for the accurate coding, completion and submission of various insurance claims forms, generating patient statements and office accounting reports. Students are required to take five 125-hour modules of classroom and computer lab instruction in addition to a 125-hour externship program. Coursework covers topics including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, office procedures and bookkeeping.
Medical Office AdministratorMedical Office Administrator The Medical Office Administrator program trains students in a variety of medical/dental office administration procedures. Course topics include bookkeeping, billing and collection, records management, patient data collection, typing, and transcription. Upon graduation, students may pursue entry-level positions as medical/dental office assistants, medical secretaries, medical biller/collector, and insurance claims processors. Students must complete five 150 modules of classroom and lab instruction in addition to a 160 hour externship program.
Pharmacy TechnicianPharmacy Technician Graduates of this program are trained with a combination of theory and hands-on applications required to perform a variety of tasks within pharmacy technician career. Coursework covers microbiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and pharmaceutical calculations. Students will acquire both the administrative and clinical skills for positions in retail, hospital, clinic and home iv facilities. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the national exam sponsored by the national healthcare association, and they will be able to apply for jobs including pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, and pharmacy services representatives.
